We are very excited to have our field trip this year at Project Adventure in Beverly, Massachusetts. The field trip will take place on Tuesday, October 18th. Students were given a field trip permission slip form as well as a medical form from Project Adventure earlier this week. The cost of the field trip is $20 and lunch will be provided. The forms need to be completed and signed by Tuesday September 27th. All students should be prepared to be outside all day in a wooded area. We will eat lunch outside, in a grassy field. In inclement weather, the field trip will still continue, so appropriate clothing is highly recommended. We are looking forward to this day!! What should you bring? What to Wear:
This month, the Bridge staff has introduced the idea of a “Growth Mindset” vs. a “Fixed Mindset.” A fixed mindset is one where we believe that our personality, character, talent, abilities, and intelligence are fixed. We are either smart, or not smart. We are either talented at something (sports, music, arts & crafts, etc.,) or we aren’t. The world is made of some gifted people, whom the rest admire from the outside. In the fixed mindset world, every little success validates us as a person and every small failure or mistake tears us down — in the end, leading to taking less risks in life because of the fear of failure.
On the other hand, a Growth Mindset is where we believe that everything about a person can be developed through dedication and hard work. Through resilience and motivation, anyone can grow and be anything they want to be. For example, there are no “geniuses”, only hard-working students who have chosen to push themselves further than what is expected. Mistakes and failures do not tear us down, they are treated as opportunities for further improvement. A growth mindset allows us to constantly grow and improve as well as to understand that we can turn ourselves into a person we admire if we are really as passionate about it as they are and willing to put in the effort. Here in Bridge we are focused to teach that whichever mindset we choose to embrace, our view of the world and every decision that we make is impacted. The bulletin board below is to support students’ understanding of what Growth and Fixed Mindset and provides students with alternative sentences to say to exhibit a Growth Mindset in school. “CHANGE YOUR WORDS, CHANGE YOUR MINDSET”
Welcome back to Burlington High School and the Bridge Program for the 2016/2017 academic school year. We are thrilled to have two new staff members with us in Bridge this year. Ms. Taylor LoConto is joining us in the role of school psychologist and Ms. Jessica McCarthy is joining us in the role of a academic liaison.
We will all be available to meet with you during this week's Open House (Thursday September 15th from 6:30-8:30pm). Can't wait to see everyone. The Bridge Staff |
